We sell a range of perennials which are generally described as plants that develop top growth in spring, flower in summer or autumn, the foliage then dies down to ground level in early winter. The root growth remains in the soil allowing the cycle to begin again in spring.
We sell a range of these garden favourites which are ideally planted in threes or fives to achieve maximum effect. Many can be relied upon to develop into larger clumps over time, so prove excellent value for money. Amongst the most popular with our customers are Lupins, Hollyhocks, Foxgloves and Delphiniums, in fact the quintessential cottage garden plants. They not only add colour, but also height to a border. For late summer and autumn colour we stock a variety of Asters, Rudbeckias and Sedums, many of which can be seen in our show gardens.
The ‘perennial border’ – also called the herbaceous border, has the plants grouped according to a scheme which shows the plants off to best effect. There is no magic formula attached to this, but rather a matter of personal choice as far as colour, textures and themes are concerned. Our range is competitively priced and from spring to autumn we carry 1LT and 2LT plants in a range of colours and form as well as having seasonal promotions and perennials in bud and flower. So if you wish to go for a ‘modern one colour palette theme’ or a ‘hot dramatic look’, we have the perennials you need.
Remember many of these plants are particularly attractive to wildlife, especially bees and butterflies, as their flowers are nectar rich.
An important tip is to mulch and label the perennial plants in autumn. This not only helps to insulate the roots throughout winter, but also reminds you where you have planted them! In spring remember to apply slug protection as slugs particularly enjoy fresh young growth. We sell standard pellets together with environmentally friendly alternatives.
We stock the following aids to ensure you achieve the very best from our plants:
- Soil improvers and fertilisers
- Sprays and insect controls
- Secateurs and pruners
- Watering and irrigation equipment
- Information leaflets and books
If you require a plant that we normally stock, but it is temporarily unavailable you can leave your plant request together with your contact details. We will then contact you when the plant is available.
